Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey is 100% organic* forest honey made from the nectar of hundreds of forest flowers found in the tropical evergreen forests of South India. In fact, the BR Hills forest area from which this honey is sourced supports amazingly diverse vegetation. There are over 800 different plant species in this forest and the bees collect honey from about 600 flowering plants!
Unlike most regular honey, which is sourced from city-bred bees that collect nectar from common or garden plants, Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey is multi-floral forest honey collected from several rare plant species including many medicinal plants.
The flavor and aroma of Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey is unique. It is multifloral forest honey with a rich, natural and distinctive taste, very different from the cloying sweetness of honey collected from hives in the backyards of beekeepers. The wild bee makes honey from the nectar of hundreds of different flora found in the biodiversity-rich BR Hills forest. Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey is pure forest honey, with absolutely no sugar or added preservatives. This is honey just the way nature meant it to be.
Himalaya has engaged the Soliga Tribe to collect certified organic honey from the tropical evergreen forests of South India. The honey is 100% Organic, fairly traded and sustainably harvested. Fair trade ensures there is no exploitation of the honey collectors, they are guaranteed a fair price for the honey harvested and the trading partnership benefits all parties. It stands for all-round sustainable development. Himalaya is supporting over 1000 families of registered traditional honey collectors through the honey collection project. Himalaya pays 25% more than the market price for the honey. We have also pledged a percentage of our profits to help the Soligas build a better life. For the Soligas, this partnership brings them an additional source of income and also helps them build links to the world market.
Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey is sustainably harvested honey. When collecting the honey, great care is taken to ensure that the bee colony is not destroyed. The honeycomb is an intricate structure of honey, wax, pollen and larvae. Sustainable harvesting of honey involves harvesting the 'honey' part of the hive without destroying the entire hive. This protects bee larvae and allows the bees to rebuild the honey comb. The method is both sustainable and scientific, leaving enough honey for comb regeneration. This harvesting technique promotes bee conservation and also contributes to preserving forest ecology. Soligas are expert honey collectors and their love of the forest land makes them fiercely protective of all life in the forest area. They believe that the bees have the first right to the honey comb and as such only a small amount of honey is collected from each hive.
Himalaya guarantees the purity and quality of the honey. The honey is filtered using gravity filtration, which keeps the natural goodness of the honey intact! It is bottled under strict hygienic conditions conforming to USDA Organic standards.
